Alright, so rich doesn’t equal poor. But there are some surprising ways that rich and poor are very similar. For instance both the rich and poor don’t drive. The rich elect to have a chauffeur take them around town. Whereas the poor are either driven by their bus driver, or, if they are splurging, their taxi driver.
Both the rich and poor may have a good lawyer. The rich might have a lawyer on a retainer for any of a number of reasons. Meanwhile the poor may have a good lawyer’s name for the hazards of being poor – such as renovictions.
The rich and poor may both live in large buildings. The rich pay a lot for their mansions and staff. The poor pay less by living in large apartment buildings housing many of their own kind. This saves the poor money.
The rich get their food made for them. They hire a cook, or even more likely, a chef to make them excellent no work meals. Some of the poor also get their meals cooked for them, The soup kitchens make nourishing meals to keep them from starvation.
One way the rich and poor are very similar is that they don’t pay taxes. The poor are excluded from taxes, not just because they’re poor but because enforcing this is hard. The government would have to pay people to hunt down the money the poor would be taxed and as a percentage of their income this is a very tiny amount. It’s not worth it. Meanwhile the rich have whole industries devoted to keeping their money away from the taxman. From accountants to tax loopholes to offshore bank accounts, the rich are particularly crafty at this.
The poor have to skip a meal on occasion and are not particularly obese. The rich are usually not obese as well, because they can afford liposuction and operations to be able to eat only so much food a day. And now GLP-1s have been affecting them for a few years, now, and again the rich are keeping the weight off.
Despite their obvious differences, the rich and poor are similar in ways.
